NEGROS Power has completed a major upgrade to its Panaogao and Sum-ag substations over the weekend, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen the power infrastructure.
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Panaogao Substation in Silay City underwent a comprehensive maintenance program from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., temporarily affecting at least 10,221 consumers.
On Sunday, March 23, the Sum-ag Substation also received similar upgrades, with work occurring from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Engineer Oscar Duca, area office assistant manager of Negros Power, said these essential upgrades included protection system upgrades, installing new insulators, replacing disconnect switches, current transformers, correcting hotspots, and adding “tree wires.”
He said these measures are designed to reinforce power stability and reduce potential disruptions caused by environmental factors such as weather events or vegetation growth.
"These two days of preventive maintenance have allowed us to make significant improvements and address potential issues," he added.
Duca said these upgrades are crucial for ensuring a stronger and more reliable power system for our consumers.
Duca noted that the rehabilitation efforts at the Panaogao and Sum-ag substations are part of Negros Power's broader five-year rehabilitation and modernization program.
He said this comprehensive plan focuses on replacing outdated equipment, upgrading critical infrastructure, and strengthening overall service reliability.
By investing in these improvements, he added that Negros Power is committed to delivering a more robust and efficient power system for the entire region.
Engineer Bailey Del Castillo, chief operations officer of Negros Power, said they are committed to powering progress and driving a brighter future for Central Negros.
"Our investments in infrastructure modernization and our commitment to sustainable practices are essential for ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply for future demands," he said.
He added that these upgrades demonstrate Negros Power's dedication to providing a more reliable and resilient power system for Central Negros, ensuring that consumers can enjoy a consistent and uninterrupted power supply. (MAP)
