THE political scene in Negros Occidental continues to be interesting following the recent pronouncement of the ally of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., secretary-general of United Negros Alliance (Unega), said the rumored tandem of Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and former Fourth District Representative Jeffrey Ferrer for the 2019 elections is possible, with the vice governor seeking the province’s top post.

Lacson belonged to Love Negros, along with Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez, while Ferrer is a party-mate of Marañon.

Ferrer is the running mate of the governor in the 2016 elections. He challenged Lacson in the vice gubernatorial post but fell short.

Escalante told reporters that the rumored Lacson-Ferrer tandem in the next elections is a possibility. “I cannot deny nor confirm that but that is very possible. That scenario could happen because everybody is calling for a United Negros come 2019.”

Marañon had been open to unity talks, as well as Benitez and Lacson. But both parties have yet to meet for a concrete unity talks.

Until then, everything is a speculation.

Another game changer is if Benitez will decide to run for governor.

Lacson had been waiting for the decision of Benitez, who had been included in the senatorial line-up of the ruling Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban, the party of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Benitez has yet to reveal his political plans.

We are keen to know about their next move.
