Editorial: Magikland is here

NEGRENSES were upbeat over the weekend as the rides for the first ever theme park in Negros Occidental has arrived in Silay City.

Construction work has already commenced on the 3.75-hectare lot in Barangay Guinhalaran where Magikland will rise next year.

Among the attractions at the P600-million theme park is the tallest Ferris wheel in the Visayas, roller coasters, carousels, kiddie and family rides, thrill rides and go-karts, a haunted house, and arcade games.

One of the suppliers is Italian company Zamperia, which is also Disneyland’s biggest supplier. The park is designed to accommodate 3,000 visitors daily.

This project is seen to steer economic development for the province, especially in tourism.

During the groundbreaking rites last April 2017, Aton Land and Leisure Inc. president Reynaldo Bantug said the objective of building the theme park and other developments in the area is to contribute to the socio-economic growth of Negros through developing the tourism industry.

The development of the theme park will generate jobs for Negrenses as there will be commercial spaces up for rent, which can also help the locals earn more.

The theme of Magikland came from a Negrense folklore.

Kudos to Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez, being the prime mover of the project. The lawmaker had pushed for the project as early as 2011, during his first term.

Is it 2019 yet?
