SO apparently the agency tasked to recover the ill-gotten wealth accumulated by the late President Ferdinand Marcos and family may be abolished.
Oh wow.
Some 102 members of the House of Representatives passed on third reading Tuesday, May 15, the bill seeking the abolition of the Presidential Commission on Good Governance (PCGG).
Only 10 voted against the measure.
The PCGG was created after the People Power Revolution on February 1986 under the late President Corazon Aquino.
Among the authors of House Bill 7376, or the "Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) Charter", were House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas.
The measure also seeks the abolition of the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC), the principal and statutory law office of government-owned-and-controlled corporations (GOCC).
According to the bill, it is aimed to eliminate the overlapping functions of PCGG and OGCC as it will be absorbed by the OSG.
The measure is looking to have an enhanced effort in recovering the ill-gotten wealth and to have efficient investigation and prosecution of relative cases.
However, abolishing the commission, as it was created after the People Power to go after the ill-gotten wealth accumulated by the late dictator, will only revise the historical account of the country.
This will also give the Marcoses a chance to get back to power.
Hope the upper house would not budge.
