Editorial: The list is out

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) released Monday the list of the barangay leaders in the country who allegedly into the illegal drug trade.

No barangay captains and kagawads in Negros Occidental were included in the list which contained 207 names.

These names, according to PDEA Director Aaron Aquino, were validated by four law enforcement units.

He said charges will be filed against these personalities.

In the list, Bicol region has the most number of alleged drug personalities with 70 followed by Cordillera with 34 and Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao, 13.

Aquino said some of the persons on the list were users, pushers, and even drug lord, but majority were protectors of the illegal drug trade and drug lords.

PDEA emphasized that the list is not a “hit list,” stressing it was released for voters to be aware of who to vote for in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on May 14.

But this could somehow put those on the list in danger, as they could be targeted by groups, individuals, or even the government. Oh, the bloodbath.

Their names were already released to the public.

While the agency stressed it was already validated, they could be wrong.

This is because of the previous drugs lists containing the names of local officials that were released by the government before also needed further validation.

We don’t condone barangay officials who are into the illegal drug trade, but the alleged drug list still need further corroboration.
