Sanchez: Promises, promises

The Supreme ABF Contractor assured Engineer Ferdinand Magada, chief of Construction Section of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that the company will finish the construction of the drainage projects from Lacson Street to Mandalagan Bridge before the MassKara Festival celebration in October 2018.

The last time a contractor assured the Bacoleños that the construction of the drainage system was in Gatuslao Street before the MassKara Festival celebration in October 2017. The public works project was finished early this year. That’s taking Filipino time to the next level.

Now it’s 2018 and we’re given the same promise. Will the Supreme ABF Contractor be a different kettle of fish? Or will it be more of the same?

At least my consuelo de bobo is that I’m inconvenienced every Saturday when I serve the street kids with He Cares Mission at the Pallotine Formation House in Bata. There are bottlenecks that reduce traffic to a crawl. And it’s not because of TGIS.

Warned Engr. Magada, “The contractor has a deadline to finish these projects or else they will be fined.”

Any delays in government projects should be fined. Time is gold, not fool’s gold when we deal with taxpayers’ money. It’s not fine to let Filipino time to get in the way of project time management.

The clock is ticking. Because at the end of the day, it will not be the contractor who should be held liable for hitting project goals but DPWH for not ensuring promised deliverables. (bqsanc@yahoo.mail)
