PH airlines cancel flights for weekend due to ‘Ruby’

PHILIPPINE Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air announced Friday that they were cancelling several flights during the weekend due to Typhoon Ruby (international name: Hagupit).

In a statement, the country's flag carrier said that 14 flights were cancelled for Saturday. These include those leaving Manila bound for Tacloban (6 flights), Legazpi (2), Naga (2), one each to Catarman, Calbayog, Surigao and Masbate.

A total of 22 flights would not be operating also on Sunday: Tacloban (6 flights), Caticlan (5), Naga (2), Legazpi (2), Kalibo (2), one each to Catarman, Calbayog, Masbate, Roxas as well as Kalibo to Incheon.

"All other domestic and international flights for Saturday and Sunday will be operating with minor delays," PAL said.

It warned that more cancellations could be announced for December 8 and 9 depending on the path to be taken by the typhoon.

Cebu Pacific Air, on the other hand, said that 47 flights were cancelled for Saturday. These include those leaving Manila bound for Butuan (3), Cagayan de Oro (6), Caticlan (9), Legazpi (3), and one each for Dipolog, Naga, Ozamiz, Pagadian, Roxas, and Tagbilaran.

It also cancelled 19 flights leaving from Cebu bound for Butuan (2), Cagayan de Oro (3), Surigao (2), Tacloban (6), and one each in Camiguin, Caticlan, Dipolog, Legazpi, Ozamiz, Pagadian, and Siargao.

A flight from Cagayan de Oro for Davao was also canceled for Saturday.

On Friday, Cebu Pacific also cancelled trips from Manila to Butuan (3); and Cebu to Butuan (2), Surigao (2), Tacloban (1), and Siargao (1).

PAL passengers are advised to reschedule travel plans for the weekend, especially to typhoon-affected areas PAL said, adding that they may rebook for travel within 30 days from original flight date, with rebooking fees/charges waived.

If passenger is unable to rebook on the same fare class, rebooking on a higher booking class will be allowed, with fare difference also waived, it said.

Passengers of cancelled flights will automatically be rebooked on the next available flights.

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific passengers may avail themselves of free rebooking, for travel within 30 days from original departure date, and full refund of the travel fund.

The airline said passengers travelling from December 5 to 8, 2014 on other Cebu Pacific flights (domestic and international) may also avail of the following options without additional charges, until December 12, 2014: Rebooking for travel within 7 days from original departure date and full refund of travel fund.
