THE Philippine Government’s debt rose to P5.364 trillion as of end-May this year, the Bureau of Treasury (BTr) said Wednesday.
The May debt was 1.0 percent or P55 billion higher from the end-April level.
Of the total debt, P1.903 trillion or 35.5 percent was from foreign creditors, while P3.461 trillion or 64.5 percent was sourced from domestic creditors.
Domestic debt grew by 0.7 percent or P22 billion from the recorded end April level arising from the net issuance of government securities.
External debt increased by 1.8 percent or P33 billion over the previous month’s level due to the depreciation of the local currency against the US dollar, which raised the peso value of external debt by P52 billion. (SDR/Sunnex)
