Power glitch stops LRT operation

MANILA – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) temporarily suspended the operation of six LRT Line 1 stations after a power line glitch near the Monumento station Wednesday morning.

LRTA spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said they decided to “degrade” the operations at the Monumento, R.Papa, Abad Santos, Balintawak, Roosevelt and 5th Avenue stations while their maintenance personnel fix the problem.

Citing reports he received from his personnel, Cabrera said the spark at the power line was noticed at around 5:12 a.m.

“Dahil po dun sa nakita na spark, nag-decided tayo for safety reasons na patayin muna ang power supply at ihinto ang operasyon sa mga nasabing stations,” Cabrera said adding full operations were restored at past 9 a.m.

The power line problem took place a day before the LRT Lines 1 and 2 suspended its operations to pave the way for the annual Holy Week maintenance to ensure that the mass transit system is in good condition before resuming operations on April 9.

Aside from the LRT Lines 1 and 2, Cabrera said similar suspension of operation would take place at the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3. (AH)
