

A PREGNANT nurse and her unborn child died in a road accident in Purok Proper North, Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday evening, June 1, 2025.
Police identified the fatality as Maria Angela Buendia, 36, a six-month-old pregnant and resident of Purok Proper North, Irrigation, Barangay Taloc, Bago City.
Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, Bago City Police Station Office officer-in-charge, said the victim was crossing the highway using the pedestrian lane when she was hit by Toyota Avanza Wagon driven by Philip Jansen Cantiller, 30, a resident of Deca Homes Subdivision, Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City, around 9:15 p.m.
He said the victim was thrown toward the opposite lane and run over by the incoming SUV driven by Salvador Castro, 59, a resident of Purok Aure, Barangay Crossing Pulupandan, Pulupandan.
Investigation showed Cantiller was traveling from Bago City toward Bacolod City, while Castro was traversing from Bacolod City toward Bago City.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was brought to a hospital, but she did not survive, including her unborn child.
The two drivers also voluntarily surrendered to Bago City Police Station.
Pico said the family of the victim is willing to file charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against the two drivers, who were detained at the police station. (MAP)
