A CATHOLIC priest still prefers the traditional way of chanting the "Pabasa ng Pasyon" or "Reading of Passion" over the version of young Filipinos using the tune of hit songs such as “Roar” and “Wrecking Ball.”
Fr. Kunegundo Garganta, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Youth (CBCP-ECY), reminded those who are attending the "Pabasa" that its purpose is not to amuse.
"Yes, I still prefer the traditional way of chanting the 'Pabasa' since it is also one way to pray. I hope the spirit of the occasion would lead us to really pray and reflect and not to entertain ourselves," he said in an interview.
The Pabasa is a Holy Week practice in the country that involves chanting of the narrative of the life, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (FP/Sunnex)
