THE City Government of Sagay inaugurated its P45-million “Old Sagay Public Market” in Barangay Old Sagay during the 29th Charter Anniversary of the city on June 11, 2025.

Leading the rites was Sagay City Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, and Congressman Alfredo Marañon III.

The building features eight commercial blocks, 26 fish stalls, seven meat stalls, 12 vegetable stalls, and three comfort rooms on the first floor, while the second floor offers 11 stalls designed for cafes and restaurants, also with comfort rooms.

The project also integrates a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), a Sewage Treatment Plant, and a water system.

Mayor Javelosa Jr. presented the project, outlining its purpose and urged prospective vendors and sellers to ensure its care and maintenance.

Cueva also expressed his gratitude to Marañon for facilitating one of the barangay's most vital infrastructures, especially as it serves as a gateway to the Sagay Marine Reserve.

He said that additional structures are slated for completion, including improvements for accessibility for Persons with Disability and the elderly.

For his part, City Engineer Jezreel Alingco said that despite setbacks from challenges with informal settlers and resolving boundaries, this project came into fruition, thanks to the firm commitment of our leaders.

Old Sagay Punong Barangay Rogelio Sayam also expressed his gratitude to the Local Government of Sagay and the Second Congressional District for this unique structure in their barangay, expressing hope that it will further boost the local economy.

Also present were City Administrator Ryan Bongganoy; Councilors Sherwin Sy, Felisa de la Cruz, and Ching Javellana; and councilors-elect Doc Mel Serondo and Benson Fernandez, along with barangay councilor of Old Sagay and purok chairpersons. (MAP)
