MANILA -- The family of a journalist killed in Palawan went to the Senate Tuesday to ask senators to investigate how the Palawan Provincial Government spent the money from a natural gas project in the province.
Dr. Patria and Mika Ortega, wife and daughter of Dr. Gerry Ortega, who was killed in Puerto Princesa in January, asked Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to look into the P3.1 billion that Palawan got from the Malampaya natural gas project.
Ortega had earlier accused former Palawan governor Joel Reyes, former vice governor Dave Ponce de Leon, and incumbent Governor Abraham Mitra of having a hand in her husband's death. She said her husband was killed to silence him.
She said her husband had been speaking out on corruption about the Malampaya funds before he was killed.
Ortega said that the Commission on Audit has only accounted for P520 million of the P3.1 billion share the province got from proceeds of the Malampaya project.
With the Ortegas were former general Danilo Lim and "running priest" Father Robert Reyes. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
