2020 UniGames cancels Silver year due to pandemic

THE 2020 Philippine University Games (UniGames), which was supposed to celebrate its 25th founding year, has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual sports undertaking was earlier scheduled from October 23 to 30, 2020, tentatively, in Bacolod City.

This year would have been big for the UniGames as it celebrates its Silver year after founded in 1996 by the late Bro. Roly Dizon.

In a letter by UniGames President Roger Banzuela, he said Covid–19 pandemic brought widespread damage to the economy nationwide and, sadly, many private schools have not been spared with some schools closing down and mass gathering, like sports competitions, are banned for the safety of everyone.

The statement also highlighted that, “the virus doesn’t move, people move it. We stop moving, the virus dies. It’s that simple.”
