AT LEAST 160 football teams from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Iloilo City, and Cebu City will join in the 2nd 6100 Football Festival from May 13 to 14, 2023, at the Bacolod City National High School in the city.
Jeffrey Velez, secretary-general of 6100 First Touch Football Club, said Friday, May 5, that the qualified players who can join the event are those who were born in 2016, 2014, 2012, 2010, 2008, and 2006. This will be open to men and women.
He said they prepared for the event for almost two months and invited various teams from Negros Oriental, Iloilo City, and Cebu City, as well as the active football clubs in the province.
"We are expecting at least 160 teams for the two-day festival. Most of the teams are from the grassroots category, which will play on the first day of the event, and on the second day, it will be men's open for the adult category," he added.
Velez noted that they also have a futsal event for the girls who were born in 2005.
Velez said the 6100 First Touch Football Club was organized by a former varsity from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos with the support of club president Nelson Chong.
"We came up with this idea to share our knowledge or expertise about football, we want to pay back, so we started at the grassroots here in Negros Occidental," he said.
He added that the first 6100 Football Festival was held in 2022 at the Bantug Lake Ranch in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.
The 6100 Football Festival was also supported by the Department of Education-Bacolod.
Velez disclosed that the participating teams will pay a P1,000 registration fee as their commitment for the event.
