NEGROS Occidental Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez filed House Resolution No. 372 on Monday, September 12, 2022, honoring tennis prodigy Alex Eala, the first Filipino to win a junior Grand Slam singles title.

Eala, whose father Mike is from Victorias City, won the 2022 US Open, formally the United States Open Tennis Championships, Girls’ Singles event trophy.

She bested higher ranked Lucie Havlickova of the Czech Republic.

Benitez stressed that Eala’s success as a source of pride and inspiration for our nation in seeking the conferment of the Congressional Medal of Distinction to the 17-year old tennis champion.

“Her phenomenal performance and historic victory at the US Open brings great honor and joy to our country, and serves as beacon of hope and inspiration for Filipino athletes and the youth,” he said.

The lawmaker urged the Filipino youth to emulate Eala’s determination, diligence, discipline and dedication saying with this attitude, nothing is impossible. (PR)
