AN OFF-ROAD triathlon aimed at promoting the sport to the younger generations took place in Barangay Bulata, Cauayan town, Negros Occidental on July 16.

The event was organized by Punta Bulata Group representative Ron Zayco, Camille Zayco and camp; and Team Armand, headed by Armando Denajeba.

The participants came from different parts of Negros Island and Iloilo City who hurdled the 10-kilometer muddy and hilly course’s trail, immersed in a 750-meter frigid water among others.

Majority of the athlete-participants are either cyclists or runners only and have not ventured into an athletic competition involving swimming, cycling, and distance running.

The discipline, diversity of activities, and cross training that differentiate it to other sports makes triathlon more stimulating.

The organizers limited the registrations to 50 participants who have pre-registered.

Negros Occidental Sixth District Representative Mercedes Alvarez graced the event to show her support.

The proceeds of the event will be donated to the local residents, as part of giving back to the community as some of them were also involved in the event as marshal.

To bring the community together, organizers consider holding another triathlon event next year and hopes to attract more athlete-participants.
