BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts swept Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in three sets to successfully defend their title in the just-concluded 4th Invitational JGM Finance Corp. Tournament Girls Volleyball U17.
For the second consecutive years, Thunderbolts triumphed over Cebu squad: 25-16, 25-21, and 25-12 behind eventual MVP and best opposite hitter Alyssa Bertolano, and team skipper Shane Carmona.
The University of St. La Salle settled for third place with a 25-18, 19-25, and 25-19 victory over La Carlota City Selection.
JGM president and Tay Tung vice chairman for sports Jose Montalbo said that with the successful staging of this year’s tournament, more teams are expected to join next season. “We are looking at teams from Mindanao seeing action next year,” he said.
With this performance, Tay Tung remained the team to beat in the upcoming Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association season. (HGD)
