THREE more projects of the City Government of Victorias were inaugurated on Thursday, June 26, 2025, including the newly relocated Victorias Café, the city’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered traffic lights, and the upgraded Satellite Market in Barangay I.
The Victorias Café has been relocated to the South Wing of the Public Plaza. With its improved design, the café aims to become a lively space for local business, food, and community gatherings.
The AI-powered traffic lights with camera integration, installed at Crossing Central along Osmeña Avenue and BS Aquino Drive, were also switched on.
Victorias City Mayor and congressman-elect of the Third District of Negros Occidental, Javier Miguel Benitez, who led the ceremony, said it was high time to install traffic lights in Victorias to help reduce congestion and keep roads safer and more peaceful for all.
He said the Satellite Market in Barangay I now offers more space for vendors, with 68 stalls and a better drainage system.
Benitez also expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental for their support, noting that the facility is more than just a place to buy and sell, it is a mark of a progressive city.
Moreover, Victorias City also reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural development and educational advancement through the ceremonial signing of two significant agreements held at the second floor lobby of Victorias City Hall Thursday, June 26.
The City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Sugar Research Institute Foundation, Inc. (PHILSURIN), becoming the first local government unit (LGU) in the country to officially partner with PHILSURIN in advancing sugarcane productivity.
Victorias City and PHILSURIN aim to empower local sugarcane farmers by introducing appropriate farming technologies and new high-yielding, climate-resilient sugarcane varieties.
The collaboration is expected to boost farm productivity, improve the income of farmers, and further strengthen Victorias City's sugar industry. (MAP)
