A 25-YEAR-OLD woman died from suspected rabies at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City, two months after she was bitten by a dog.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the City Health Office (CHO) Environment Sanitation Division, said the patient, a resident of Barangay 35, Bacolod City, was bitten by a dog in Kabankalan City in March 2025.

She said the dog also expired in March with no adequate information on how the dog died.

Tan added the patient was admitted to the CLMMRH on May 24, 2025, with signs and symptoms of aerophobia and hydrophobia. Unfortunately, she did not survive and expired on the following day.

She was the fourth suspected rabies casualty in Negros Occidental this year.

Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, Negros Occidental provincial health officer, said this year, other fatalities from suspected rabies in Negros Occidental include a six-year-old boy from Don Salvador Benedicto, a 72-year-old man from Hinoba-an, and a 21-year-old woman from Cauayan.

Health authorities urged those bitten by animals such as dogs and cats to visit the nearest health center within their barangays for proper medication and vaccination. (MAP)
