2 nabbed for firearms possession

POLICE recently arrested two gun holders while some nine firearms were surrendered to the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (Procor) as part of its continuous campaign against loose firearms.

Gilbert Agpad Baydon, 51, farmer and a resident of Rizal, Kalinga was arrested after a search warrant was issued July 10, 2020.

As a result of the search, seized from Baydon’s residence are one M16 rifle, one caliber .45 pistol, two magazines for M16, one magazine for caliber .45 pistol, 18 pieces of ammunition for caliber 5.56 rifle, and five ammunition for caliber .45 pistol.

Marjune Quiray Sebastian, 23, farmer and a resident of Lagangilang, Abra was also arrested after caught violating the curfew hours in Barangay Cabaroan, Dolores, Abra in the night of July 10.

Sebastian was also in possession of a homemade caliber .45 loaded with ammunition.

Meanwhile, nine assorted loose firearms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered by various local government units and civilians in Abra in support of the campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) against loose firearm on July 12, 2020.

Brigadier General R’win Pagkalinawan, Procor regional director, said the arrest of suspects and the surrender of firearms is proof of the gaining support against an intensified campaign on loose firearms in the region.

“I expect that all units will likewise intensify their law enforcement operations on loose firearms in their respective areas because this will prevent criminals from carrying out their illegal activities,” Pagkalinawan said.
