Abra town official arrested

A COUNCILOR in the town of Dolores in Abra was arrested by police for grave threats.

In a belated report, police investigation disclosed that on the afternoon of May 16, complainant identified as Hardy Eduarte who was on board his motorcycle met Councilor Paul John Ace Guzman together with five unidentified persons on the road who were on board a Gray Ford Ranger driven by SB Guzman.

Upon stopping, one of the suspects alighted and hit the victim with a firearm on his head resulting to an accidental discharge of the hand gun.

In a follow-up operation by Dolores Municipal Police Station, Guzman was arrested while one empty shell of a cal. 45 was recovered at the scene. The other suspects remain at large.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) Deputy Director For Plans and Operations Head Police Colonel Homer Penecilla who headed the Regional Emergency Monitoring Action Center (REMAC) during the May 13 midterm elections in the Cordillera said the conduct of the political exercise was generally peaceful.

In the weekly “Police Mo, Kaibigan Mo” radio program, Penecilla noted that although there were reports of fist fighting between rival political supporters particularly in the Province of Abra during election day, this was very manageable.

“It is a manifestation that the presence of our police and military forces in various polling precincts have proven to be very effective. Our security plans which started as early last year focused on possible scenarios during election day and and the specific responses which our security forces are to apply if the need aroused,” Penecilla said.

PRO-COR congratulated all its 8,000 Police personnel including their military counterpart who were assigned in various areas in the region during the electoral exercise
