Apayao farmer loses P60,000 to carpenter

A CARPENTER from Apayao Province is facing an estafa case after victimizing a farmer.

The suspect was identified as Harold Cutaran, a carpenter and resident of Barangay Bulo, Allacapan, Cagayan, while the victim was identified as Virgilio Pascual, a farmer and resident of Barangay Aninipan, Flora, Apayao.

Investigation disclosed that on March 5 Cutaran went to the house of the victim and convinced him to enter into an agreement for the purchase and installation of his galvanize iron sheet roofing amounting to P160,000.

Pascual, who did not have the enough money, borrowed from her daughter Hazel amounting to P60,000 as a down payment for the said contract.

The suspect promised to deliver and install the items on or before March 22, but failed to keep its promise.

On April 7, the victim and her daughter went to Allacapan Municipal Police Station to settle the problem.

Cutaran promised to return the P60,000 on April 30, but also failed to comply on their agreement up to this date.

Pascual tried to contact the suspect through his cellphone but can no longer be reached, prompting the victim together with her daughter to report the incident to Flora Municipal Police Station.

Documents are being prepared for the filing of the case, while a progress report is set to follow. (With reports from Nica Regalario, University of the Cordillera Intern)
