Atok closes sights anew

TOURIST attractions in Atok town, Benguet were temporarily closed again to the public.

The local government unit decided to close tourism areas including Sakura Park, Northern Blossoms, and Haight’s Place effective Friday, March 13 as preventive measure of the coronavirus threat.

It has been more than 20 days since Atok re-opened after its tourism sites closed last February 21.

The town’s Covid Task Force, heads of offices and officials announced all tourist spots in the town will be temporarily closed until further notice.

In Mountain Province, Barlig town officials also declared temporary suspension of all tourism activities following the proclamation declaring a state of public health emergency in the country which would capacitate government and local government units (LGUs) to immediately act to prevent loss of life, utilize appropriate resources to implement urgent and critical measures s to contain or prevent the spread of the virus.

“To further minimize the risk of contracting this infectious disease, the municipal health board, municipal epidemiology surveillance unit and municipal nCoV task force recommend the temporary suspension of all tourism activities until further advice,” according to Mayor Clark Ngaya.

Earlier, climbing activities in Mt. Ulap in Itogon and Mt. Pulag in Kabayan, Benguet were suspended as preventive measure against the virus.
