STAKEHOLDERS are being consulted and legalities studied for the development of the public market.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong is keen on setting into place the long delayed development of the city market.

Magalong said plans are being made for the city to undertake development of the public market.

On the legislative side, Councilor Mylen Yaranon, chair of the committee on public works, is gathering stakeholders to create the master development plan of the market for its modernization.

Yaranon said the development will include structures, zoning and guidelines for the upkeep and maintenance of the space.

She added the market development will need support of all stakeholders in the city.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, chair of the committee on laws, is now working to study and resolve the impasse caused by the botched Uniwide deal entered into by the city in the 90`s which has hampered development of the market since.

Tabanda has set meetings this week to start the project.

Uniwide Sales and Realty Corporation failed to modernize the space despite a contract with the city and has been embroiled in a legal war between the city and market stakeholders.

Uniwide was deemed by the Securities and Exchange Commission incapable of finances, thus, making it unfit to implement the project but the city has yet to legally rescind the contract.

Councilor Philian Weygan-Allan has also started talks with vendors of the market to streamline needs and note what needs to be done with the social aspect of the market development.
