Baguio welcomes DOT rehab plans

BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan welcomed the remarks of Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on having a different approach on rehabilitation.

“Well, thank you for her statement but Baguio is not like Boracay or any other beach. We admitted that there is a need to rehabilitate but not the entire Baguio City.”

In an interview over national television, Puyat said she was open for any measure needed for the city.

Weeks ago, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said no order for Baguio City to be closed for rehabilitation has been released.

Domogan reiterated that what have been done in Boracay may not be done in Baguio City since it has a different situation.

“If we go to the hotels, can you do what they have done in Boracay, closing all hotels? Can you close the hospitals, the schools? I do not think so. Only those that did not comply are supposed to be rehabilitated but it should not be a total closure of Baguio to subject it to rehabilitation,” Domogan added.
