Beneco to implement second phase of internet connection

BENGUET Electric Cooperative (Beneco) and Converge are set to start the second phase of internet fiber optic connectivity covering the northern portion of Baguio City.

Eric De Guzman, Beneco Consumer Welfare officer, said that from the 60,227 cooperative members in Baguio City, 2,584 or 4.3 percent of the total members successfully applied for the internet connectivity.

“Right now, we have an estimated 16,000 available ports with 2,584 successful applicants, which means we have more than enough ports. We will be opening another port at our box at Trancoville and at Coyeesan area which would power up this September Trancoville, Quirino Hill, Pinget, Pinsao, Guisad, Quezon Hill, Irisan and the Asin area, so more or less we will have an available 25,000 ports on top of the 16,000 ports,” De Guzman said.

On a daily basis, 35 of the 100 applicants are approved by the electric cooperative.

“The target number of ports for Baguio City alone by the end of the year is 35,000 households and our target by the end of this year is 10,000 applicants. Based on testimonials of our applicants, they are very happy of the 25 MPBS and although we may experience system down time or slowdown mainly because of fiber cut and others, we are able to restore it,” De Guzman added.

Beneco’s basic plan starts at P1,500, which is at 25MPBS with an initial one month subscription deposit of P1,500 plus installation fee of P2,500.

Beneco and Converge ICT signed an agreement in August 2018.
