Benguet records 2nd Covid-19 death

THE Province of Benguet recorded its second coronavirus disease-related death this week.

The patient, a male senior citizen, was admitted to Lutheran Hospital in Abatan, Buguias from September 7 to 11, due to cellulitis and was discharged after showing improvement. However, on September 13, he felt weak, thus, his family rushed him to Northern Benguet District Hospital at Bekes, Buyacaoan and was admitted.

The senior citizen was then referred to Benguet General Hospital for further observations and treatment. On their way to La Trinidad, however, he showed symptoms of cardiac arrest at Natubleng and was brought to Atok District Hospital in Sayangan for intubation and eventually died.

The senior citizen was swabbed for Covid-19 on September 14 and his positive result was released the next day.

Benguet recorded its first Covid-19 death in August, involving a 58-year-old male from Itogon town who had comorbidity.

As of September 17, there are 37 active cases, 193 recoveries, and 232 confirmed cases in Benguet.

The Provincial Government, meanwhile, will conduct Covid-19 testing not only for frontliners but also for pregnant women and other vulnerable sectors per the Department of Health guidelines.

On Friday, La Trinidad rolled out around 800 to 1,000 expanded mass testing for pregnant women, dialysis patients, Philippine National Police applicants, stakeholders from the vegetable trading post and public market.
