Benguet suspends classes

CLASSES in all levels for both public and private schools in Benguet province have suspended from March 13 to 22 as preventive measure against coronavirus disease.

Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas with the members of the task force suspended all classes starting Friday afternoon until March 22 during the Inter-Agency Coronavirus Diease Task Force Benguet meeting on Friday morning at the provincial capitol.

For Benguet State University the suspension will take effect Saturday, March 14, also until the 22nd.

The declaration was made following the Inter-agency Covid-19 Task Force for the management and emergency infectious disease approved to raise the code alert system to code red sub-level 2.

Under the executive order signed Diclas, school officials and administrators were tasked to immediately sanitize and disinfect their classrooms and facilities in order to preven transmission of the virus.

Aside from the suspension of classes, the task force also decided to postpone all tourism and crowd drawing activities from March 13 to April 10.

While activation of the contingency plans for the province has not yet activated but action plans for the current situation are being implemented.

As of February 13, there are five persons under investigation (PUIs) in the province of Benguet.

The Benguet General Hospital was identified as the quarantine facility for the province with 17 rooms available while the workforce of the hospital to be augmented are expected to scale up.

PUIs are set to be referred to level 1 and 2 hospitals while persons under monitoring are advised for home quarantine.
