Benguet's molecular lab opens this year

THE operation of the molecular laboratory at Benguet General Hospital (BEGH) in La Trinidad will start in December.

Governor Melchor Diclas said the laboratory will fully open next month with at least eight medical technologists who have undergone training in Baguio City.

He added that the molecular laboratory has its own Reverse Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and automated extraction machines after it was retrieved from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

The machines at BGHMC were also replaced to continue the operation of the Covid-19 sub-national testing center.

The molecular laboratory in the province seeks to boost the Covid-19 testing capacity of Benguet.

Benguet lawmaker Eric Go Yap earlier said he personally funded the construction of the molecular laboratory.

Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, BEGH hospital chief, said additional equipment for the laboratory are expected to be delivered this week.
