Bike parking sought in La Trinidad

BUSINESS establishments in La Trinidad will soon be mandated to provide parking spaces for bicycles.

This after the passage of a proposed ordinance mandating commercial establishments and institutions to provide parking space for bicycles within the municipality and providing penalties authored by Councilors Horacio Ramos Jr., Arthur Shontogan, and Guiller Galwan.

According to the proposed measure, bicycle, as an alternative mode of transportation integrated everyday has brought about significant improvement in the promotion of healthy lifestyle and preservation of eco-friendly environment.

The measure added bicycle use to travel different places within the municipality requires the provision of the adequate parking spaces for safe-keeping.

A public consultation will be conducted on May 22 at the Lednicky Hall to clarify matters including those businesses which do not have parking spaces.

“They have to attend because we are encouraging and promoting the use of non-motorized transportation,” added Ramos.

Responsible for the implementation of the provisions of the proposed ordinance is the Municipal Engineering Office and the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station.

Violations of the provisions of the proposed law will be penalized for P1,000 for first offense, P2,000 for second offense and P2,500 for the third and succeeding offenses.
