Crime rate drops during ECQ

CLOSE to 1,000 violators of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) were recorded by Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO-COR) since March 17.

Police Major Carolina Lacuata, PRO–COR public information officer, said the ECQ implementation in the region was properly informed to the public and compared to other regions, Cordillera remains peaceful.

“Since the start of the ECQ on March 15 until April 15 this year, PRO–COR recorded 981 curfew violators with 913 of these given verbal reminders and sent home, 32 individuals were fined, 19 underwent inquest proceedings, 17 underwent regular filing, 36 individuals were arrested, while the number of cases filed was recorded at 17,” Lacuata said.

“There was a large downtrend in the number of individuals arrested for violating the ECQ since the start of implementation in March as compared to the present. For the focus crimes being monitored by PRO-COR, we recorded a big reduction as compared to the same period last year with only 171 cases compared to the same period last year of 580 cases,” Lacuata added.

There are 108 cases of disobedience with 52 cases undergoing inquest proceedings.
