Dengue cases down in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Dengue cases in the province have decreased, a health official said.

Provincial Health Officer Doctor Nora Ruiz attributed the decrease in the number of cases to interventions made by local officials, municipal health offices before the numerous cases recorded in the previous year.

From January 3 to June 8, 2020, there are 205 dengue cases in the province compared to the 493 cases reported in the same period in 2019 with a 58 percent decrease.

La Trinidad had the highest number of dengue cases with 107. Of the cases, 31 cases are in Itogon, 12 in Atok, nine in Mankayan, eight each in Kapangan, Sablan, and Buguias, six in Tuba, five in Tublay, three cases in Bakun, two in Bokod and one in Kabayan.

Ruiz added most individuals with dengue cases involve male adults with 127 while females with 78.

The provincial health officer also reminded stakeholders to continue practicing cleanliness within their homes.

Benguet also recorded zero fatality from January to June this year compared to three deaths in 2019.

As the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration declared the start of the rainy season, Ruiz appealed to Benguet constituents to keep in mind the 4s in fighting against Dengue: Search and Destroy the possible source of breeding of mosquitoes; Seek early consultation; wear long-sleeve clothing as Self-protection against Dengue; and Say yes to fogging.
