THE Department of Education (DepEd) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) announced the appointment of its new regional director.

In a virtual turnover ceremony, outgoing DepEd-Cagayan Valley Director Estela Cariño replaced May Eclar, who is set to lead DepEd-Central Luzon.

During the celebration of Indigenous Peoples month last week, prayers were asked for the continued protection of learners and personnel in the education sector, including Eclar, to be safe from Covid-19.

The turnover ceremony was witnessed by all the schools division superintendents, assistant schools division superintendents in the region and all other DepEd-CAR officials.

Eclar assumed office on June 2, 2017 and served the region for more than three years.

During the send-off ceremony on Friday, October 30, Eclar shared her experience working in the region and shared learning lessons, stressing it pays to be friendly, humble and kind "no matter what your status in life may be."

"The Tacadang experience and the visit to other far-flung schools i Pinukpuk made me realize the deeper meaning of service. I knew that many of our schools in CAR are in geographically isolated disadvantage areas and I would never know the conditions of our learners without these memorable visits if not with the learner's conditions which I have seen with my own eyes, I would have not given my heart to serving CAR," she said.
