Discipline 'key' in fighting Covid-19

DISCIPLINE remains a key in preventing further spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This was stressed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Cordillera Administrative Region during the regional launching of the "Disiplina Muna" advocacy campaign in Baguio City.

Marlo Iringan, DILG-Cordillera director, said the discipline of community in following minimum health standards to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 can be considered a barometer on how Cordillerans follow the government.

"Looking at it, I believe that we are doing good in so far as compliance of our constituents here to the requirements of the minimum health protocols and it reflects the discipline that we have here in the Cordillera," Iringan said.

"Disiplina Muna" advocacy campaign seeks to prod local government units (LGUs) to enact ordinances that make discipline under the new normal as a non-medical measure to fight Covid-19.

The DILG states that with the government easing quarantine restrictions to balance public health with the need to reopen the economy, measures are needed to promote discipline and individual responsibility among the people through local legislation.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who was selected as regional "Disiplina Muna" ambassador, reiterated that discipline is mostly observed visually to which it would indicate how discipline a local government units citizens are.

"Most of the indicators are visual like people's adherence to the minimum health standards, following traffic signage and complying with the traffics rules and regulations, having a clean community, and if you got to the list of violations and see a lessening, them this is again another indication that the people are slowly integrating discipline in their way of life," Magalong said.
