DOH: Covid cases in Cordillera still at safe zone

THE Department of Health Cordillera (DOH-CAR) sees the present number of coronavirus cases being managed in the region to still be at a safe zone, compared to other regions in the country.

DOH Cordillera Director Doctor Amelita Pangilinan assessed based on a regional logistic status through the department data collect digital application where 57 facilities are being monitored virtually.

“All of the 57 facilities have a total of 30 out of 41 intensive care unit (ICU) beds available ,328 out of 382 isolation beds still available, 51 out of 57 ward beds are still available,26 out of 30 mechanical ventilators are still available which reveals a critical care utilization rate of 26.83 or 27 percent which is less than 30 percent and is considered under the safe zone,” Pangilnan said.

In its May 26, Covid-19 medical health update, the region retained the present number of confirmed coronavirus cases recorded since last week or for the last seven days.

“For the Cordillera Region we have a total of 46 confirmed cases has already been recorded. The case doubling time is 11 days and all confirmed cases are from three provinces and the city of Baguio,” the Regional Health Director said.

Except for Baguio City, Province of Abra, Benguet and Ifugao, three of the remaining local government units in the region particularly Kalinga, Apayao and Mountain Province remain Covid-19 free.

“As of May 24, the BGHMC sub-national hospital for CoViD-19 testing has conducted 12,425 unique individual tests of which 84 tested positive and 12,341 tested negative, a total of 14,051 commutative samples have already been tested with a remaining 16, 322 test kits and we have many test kits available. For CAR alone, a total of 3,910 tests have already been performed where 43 turned out positive and 3,744 turned out negative with 123 pending results which is to be realized anytime soon,” Panilinan added.

A total of 21 cases are presently admitted at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center as the Covid referral hospital where two of these cases are confirmed positive, no patients are currently admitted at Lindi Hotel while one patient is currently admitted at the Santo Nino hospital but is in stable condition and four suspect cases are currently admitted at the Teachers Camp Community isolation facility.

DOH-CAR adds that in terms of the prevalence or incidence rate for Covid-19 cases recorded in region, Cordillera records a 2.5 per 100,000 population which is low as compared to that of Metro Manila which records a 10 to15 per 100,000 population incidence rating.
