Fake WHO driver nabbed

A DRIVER was arrested by operatives of the Baguio City Police Station (BCPO) Station 9 after allegedly representing himself as an employee of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Police personnel stationed at a checkpoint in Irisan, Baguio City, flagged down the vehicle of John Ernesto Burro Ferrer Jr., 39, single, and resident of Pasig City on August 1.

Ferrer was intercepted with his alternate driver, Rommel Sunga Meneses of Macabebe, Pampanga and four locally stranded individuals (LSI) passengers.

In a belated police report, Ferrer failed to show travel documents while the four LSI’s were able to show complete documents.

Police said Ferrer claimed he is a driver of WHO after showing his identification card and was just giving assistance to the LSIs going back home to Baguio City.

Ferrer, Meneses and the LSIs were allowed to proceed and subjected them all for triage 2 located at Teachers Camp, Baguio City escorted by personnel of Police Station 9.

But upon verification by Police Corporal Sharon Patacsil, WHO Public Information Officer Gina Maramag clarified they do not have an employee or personnel named Ferrer.

Kristel Deña Siaga, Assistant Administrator of the WHO also confirmed Ferrer is not a personnel of the organization.

Ferrer admitted to police he made the ID.

The suspect is now facing cases of Falsification of Public Documents, Usurpation of Authority and Violation of Republic Act No. 11332 or the "Law on Reporting of Communicable Diseases" while the vehicle is now under the custody of Station 9.
