Gadgets 'not required' for learning continuity

THE use of gadgets will not be a requirement for a continuation of learning in Benguet province.

This was the message of Benguet Schools Division Superintendent Benilda Daytaca, who said the Department of Education (DepEd) is not requiring learners to have gadgets in the upcoming school year 2020-2021, as the department will implement blended learning scheme when classes start in August.

For the continuity of education in the highlands, the blended learning approach will be used. It combines face-to-face and distance learning with modular materials to be brought to the learners, online interaction, and TV and radio-based instruction.

The department also came up with the Learning Continuity Plan, a framework of the different approaches for the education of students to continue despite the pandemic.

On Monday, Daytaca and Governor Melchor Diclas said with the low number of enrollees compared to last year, the DepEd is encouraging parents and students to enroll.

Daytaca revealed the fear of the agency, citing many did not enroll, particularly in kindergarten and high school with the belief that if they do not have gadgets, they will not be able to start school.

Starting this week, Daytaca said a massive information education campaign will be conducted to urge parents to enroll their children.
