AN IFUGAO warrior lands on the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) top ten.

Placing fourth of the 2019 graduating class at the PNPA is Police Cadet Ferdinand Mark Haguiling Lagchana, 22, from Barangay Bato-Alatbang, Mayoyao, Ifugao.

The PNPA class of 2019 Sandigan ng Mamayanan na may Sagisag na Itaguyod ang Kapayapaan at Ipaglaban ang Bayan (SanSiklab) is comprised of 201 graduates with a motto of “Live as saviours and die as heroes,” with a class color of navy blue, symbolizing a burning desire to serve God, country and people.

PNPA information chief Byron Allatog said among the graduates, 138 will be going to the Police National Police, 41 to the Bureau Fire Protection and 22 to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. There are 154 males and 47 females in the class set for graduation rites on March 22 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety.

Lagchana is the last of the seven children of Marcelo Lagchana, a security guard and Virginia Lagchana, a nurse.

His father passed on when he was 12 years old and “pushed him to become mature at an early stage.”

Lagchana enrolled BS Civil Engineering and shifted to BS Criminology at Saint Mary’s University, Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya before joining the PNPA.

“I came from a family wherein three of my brothers are graduates of the PMMA. From there, I’ve witnessed the hardship of my brothers working in other countries for months leaving their families behind. This made me change course and had chosen to enter in the police service through PNPA,” he said.

In the top ten are Cdt Jervis Allen Musni Ramos, Cdtte Merriefin Longcob Carisusa, Cdtte Mary Grace Mag-usara Pabilario, Cdt Christian Cuario Albus, Cdtte Janila Andrea Malejana Garan, Cdtte Ciara Ley Lustre Capule, Cdtte Mary Ann Balbuena De Los Santos, Cdtte Anna May Padroncillo Mangabo, and Cdt Salvador Formanes Pidlaoan.

Allatog said 29 cadets from the PNPA are from the Cordillera, the largest in the roster of graduates.
