La Trinidad pushes for bullying prevention and awareness month

PREVENTION of bullying and awareness month for students is being pushed in Benguet's capital town of La Trinidad.

On first reading, the Municipal Council of La Trinidad proposed an ordinance institutionalizing the programs, projects and activities during the observance of the bullying prevention and awareness month.

Councilor Jayson Dangwa, in his measure, said it is necessary to increase community awareness about the impact and harmful effects of bullying among students.

The municipality has given importance to the needs of the sector, through information and dissemination and massive campaign in creating an environment where bullying is not allowed.

Under the proposed measure, the Social Service and Development Office, in coordination with all public and private elementary and secondary schools, will conduct an annual campaign and activity to raise awareness among children against bullying.

The town lawmaker seeks to have the month of November of every year to celebrate the awareness month for anti-bullying and institutionalize programs, projects, and activities during the month including psychological services composed of one-on-one counseling, per group counseling and family counseling.

The programs, projects and activities identified will be implemented under the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office who shall directly coordinate with different guidance offices in all primary and secondary educational institutions in the town.

Republic Act 10627, known as the Anti-Bullying Law and Municipal Ordinance 39-2017, or the Bullying Ordinance of the municipality of La Trinidad aims to put all end to the problem of bullying among students.
