THE Department of Agriculture (DA)-Cordillera is urging local government units (LGUs) to buy agricultural produce within their areas to be included in their relief operations.

Danilo Daguio, DA regional technical director for operations, said several LGUs in the region have responded to their call to include vegetable produce in their relief operations during the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Daguio announced 72,000 kilograms of assorted vegetables from the region were delivered to different destinations in the country.

"Since ang extended ECQ, will ask LGUs kung pwede sila iyong bibili ng fresh vegetables na isasali sa kanilang relief operations," added Daguio.

Daguio said LGUs may call their office at (0949)417-3951 and (0905)151 2691 and they will look for farmers adding the department can also bring vegetables to the place of the buyer.

"The farmers can contact us in those numbers and we will find market," added Daguio.

During the first week of the Luzon-wide lockdown, he added the farming operations were affected as the vegetable trucks were unable to go out and deliver goods to the market.

Daguio said the delivery of farming commodities will not be affected, reiterating the Inter-Agency Task Force resolution have exempted farm workers from the ECQ to continue farm operations.

The department had earlier given authority to issue exemptions for farm workers from the community quarantine.

Daguio added as of April 7, there are 876 IDs given to drivers and farmers of different municipalities.
