Long-time Ifugao fugitive nabbed

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet -- After hiding for 29 years, the region's top most wanted person (TMWP) with P140,000 reward was finally captured in Ifugao province.

Operatives of Lagawe Municipal Police Station (MPS) arrested James Bunay Humiwat, 53, in Lagawe, Ifugao on January 4. He has been listed as a TMWP in the regional level.

Humiwat was apprehended by virtue of a warrant of arrest for multiple frustrated murder with no bail.

According to a report by the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (Procor), Humiwat committed his first crime on January 11, 1992 when he threw a grenade inside a store in Poblacion South, Lagawe, Ifugao, wounding six people.

On April 13, 2000, Humiwat allegedly committed attempted murder with assault against an agent of person in authority.

Police Colonel David Mariano, provincial director of Ifugao Provincial Police Office, lauded the personnel who caught Humiwat.

"This accomplishment shouldn't have been realized if not for the untiring efforts and quick action of our operatives in performing their sworn duty with emphasis on the participation and trust of the community in providing reliable information for the fulfillment of this endeavor. Rest assured that Ifugao PNP with the continuous support of the community will do its best not only on the arrest of wanted persons but for the attainment of a safer and peaceful Ifugao," Mariano said.
