LTO-Cordillera starts issuance of RFID stickers

MOTOR vehicle owners in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) who are set to receive their new plates will also be receiving their Radio Frequency Identification System (RFID) stickers from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Francis Ray Almora, LTO-CAR director, said the RFID sticker implemented way back in 2009 is necessary to serve as a digital ID for registration.

"The LTO-RFID is included in the new plates to be released to motor vehicle owners. This would contain owner's details, while the bar code installed in the plates would contain the motor vehicle details," Almora said.

LTO clarified that RFID stickers being issued by toll corporations is different.

"The RFID stickers issued by toll operators are used for its cashless payments on toll fees. This would have to be loaded with cash equivalents in able for motor vehicle owners to use toll roads," Almora said.

Almora added the LTO issued RFIDs cannot be used for toll roads since these stickers cannot be loaded with cash equivalents but only contains motor vehicle owner's and motor vehicle details.

"There is no cause for alarm when it comes to the details to be gathered for the LTO-RFID data because the information gathered here is only related to vehicle owner's details including specific details of their motor vehicles," Almora added.
