One design set for Baguio City streets



BAGUIO Mayor Benjamin Magalong wants a uniformed sidewalk for the Summer Capital.

The mayor said the goal is to recover the sidewalks and have a walkable city program that entails one design for all sidewalks.

Magalongs said the plan will be first implemented this year at the Central Business District with a P200-million budget.

The uniform sidewalk program will kick-off at Governor Pack road, which will be transformed to have one design and setting into place the look of stalls in the area.

Magalong said design of stalls have already been done and will be presented to the public before the fixing of sidewalks will be done.

The entire program entails a cost of P600 million to fund recovery of sidewalk, implementation of one design to be able to have spacious and covered street walkways.

"We will start at the CBD and ongoing na ang bidding para diya," Magalong added.

Months ago, inspections for establishments along Governor Pack road ensued with the goal to clear sidewalks and decongest area.

Establishments that have encroached over sidewalks were given time to self-demolish extensions to start the clearing to give way for installation of covered walkways for passengers, as well as students to utilize.

The mayor ordered establishments to take out extensions they have installed that block passageways on sidewalks, adding he is still not satisfied with the easement offered by some stores in the area after his first inspection, as he asked owners to back up equipment and wares toward their shop peripherals.
