Rainy season preparation on

PREPARATION for the rainy season is underway.

Baguio City Councilor Arthur Allad-iw is urging the City Engineering Office (CEO) to ensure clearing and unclogging of canals and waterways in the city as a flood control mitigation practice during the rainy and typhoon season.

Adopted and approved by the entire city council during this week’s regular session, the resolution aims to secure the city during the rainy months expected.

Allad-iw said, “Even in out mountainous city, flooding due to overflowed water from canals and waterways are experienced due to these heavy rains brought about by typhoons or storms and coupled by long heavy rains.”

The councilor said studies show that flooding is aggravated by the clogging of these canals and waterways due to indiscriminate disposal of waste and garbage and sedimentation due to construction work.

“AS the rainy season is fast approaching, there is a need that these canals and waterways should be assured to be cleared from waste or garbage and sedimentation in order to minimize its effects to residents,” Allad-iw added.

Baguio City usually experiences storms and typhoons yearly and are coupled with long and heavy rains.
