Recovering journo sends message of hope

ON THE occasion of Human Rights Day, recovering journalist Brandon Lee sent a video message to colleagues to continue the fight for right.

Lee, who was airlifted to the United States after a failed assassination attempt recently uploaded a videotaped message by Bayan USA imparting to colleagues in the Philippines to continue the fight.

Lee, a Northern Dispatch (Nordis) correspondent, was shot August 6, by unidentified gunmen in front of their house in Lagawe, Province of Ifugao.

The Chinese-American journalist and activist had just fetched his daughter from school when the attack happened.

The government has not listed the Brandon Lee shooting as part of the attack on journalists despite having a designated point person for safety and well - being of media.

Family of the recovering journalist is convinced state troopers are behind the attack as Lee identified his shooters.

A crowd gathered last month on the steps of San Francisco City Hall to welcome Lee back to the US.

Lee’s mother has previously said “my son, who like many innocent people in the Philippines, was senselessly shot for speaking out for those who have no voice, for those who are marginalized, and for those who are being taken advantage of.”
