SAP beneficiaries waiving cash lauded

POLICE Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) director R’win Pagkalinawan commended social amelioration program (SAP) beneficiaries who waived the financial assistance in favor of those needing more.

Police Brigadier General Pagkalinawan extended his gratitude and expressed admiration to SAP recipients who chose not to receive the cash aid distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development saying the kind gesture reflects the upright characteristic of Cordillerans, their resiliency toward crisis and a greater concern for others.

“It is very heart-warming to experience that amidst this crisis where almost every day is a struggle, people here in Cordillera do not think of getting more for themselves; rather, they share what they have so that everyone can be satisfied,” Pagkalinawan said.

Since the start of the distribution of the SAP in April, a good number have declined the support saying they believe they are overqualified under the parameters set by the DSWD and emphasized other families are more deserving.

Most of reasons given by recipient’s report reason they have enough for their families and have continuous compensation while others were simply honest as members of the family have already received cash aid or are 4P’s beneficiaries.

Provinces of Abra and Benguet show more than 100 SAP beneficiaries waived the P5,500 cash aid while other provinces were still consolidating while the distribution is ongoing.

“We are confident that the funds allotted to address the concerns of the less fortunate here in Cordillera region are appropriately given to the right family especially that part of the salaries of all Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel were committed to the social amelioration Fund for Covid-19, not to mention other initiated programs like the ‘Kapwa Ko Sagot Ko’, Adopt a Family Program, and other charitable efforts of the PRO-COR,” Pagkalinawan added.

The Regional Director expressed that in times of crisis, these should be moments where everyone must really become each other’s keeper.

“The PRO-COR leadership is honored to witness the sincerity of the Cordilleran’s, the harmony of the people not only through individual and organizational efforts, but especially the inter-agency collaboration,” Pagkalinawan said.
