Senior citizens tapped to register

SOME 1,000 senior citizens in Kapangan, Benguet are marked for this year’s civil registration month.

Kapangan Municipal Civil Registrar Isabel Pi-ay said there are those claiming to be 60 years-old based on their previous documents such as voter’s registration record, baptismal who has yet to register as senior citizens.

“1,000 senior citizens as of now are not yet 100 percent registered, and they are having already their pensions,” noted Pi-ay in a media forum on Friday.

Pi-ay added they have tapped the help of barangay to keep an eye on the senior citizens and constituents who haven’t yet registered.

Joan Baculing, Association of Baguio Benguet Civil Registrar President said in addition, they are also asking help from the National Commission on Indigenous People in reconciling the date of birth of senior citizens for Indigenous Peoples.

On Friday, Philippine Statistics Authority launch February as Civil registration month with the theme: ‘Inclusive and Responsive CRVS: working smarter through innovation.’

PSA is in partnership with the different local civil registrars for the conduct of different activities and promotion of the importance of civil registration in planning and decision making.

Activities in Baguio City and 13 municipalities of Benguet include civil registration information dissemination, free issuance for certified copies of birth certificate, preparation of mass weddings, among others.
