Tuba monitors checkpoint areas

PERSONS going in and out of Tuba, Benguet continues to be monitored in designated checkpoint areas in the town.

Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan said the town remains strict on checkpoints which is the gateway to Baguio City that includes thoroughfares such as Kennon Road, Marcos Highway, Asin and Naguillan Road.

“We are very strict in Tuba, travelers coming up (highlands) from the lowlands must go through checkpoints,” Sal-ongan added during the press briefing on Friday, May 8.

The chief executive said the local government unit is coordinating with the Philippine National Police for additional personnel to man the different checkpoints.

Sal–ongan said two checkpoints are placed in Asin Road and one each in Marcos Highway and Kennon Road.

The mayor added vehicles passing through the thoroughfares must present their travel pass while vehicles carrying grocery and vegetables must acquire food pass.

The town, a member of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay Development Council, is coordinating with other towns including Baguio City for the smooth flow in the implementation of IATF guidelines in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Any problem encountered by the municipality is being coordinated with the city of Baguio” she added.

As early as February 2020, the local government created a task force in preparation of the enhanced community quarantine implemented March 17 while contingency plans being prepared after the ECQ ends on May 15.

Sal-ongan said the local government unit also set up isolation rooms for Covid-19 patients located in the municipal gym.
