Valley celebrates legislative week

IN A bid to honor current and former officials, the Municipality of La Trinidad is set to celebrate the Legislative Awareness Week slated on December 2 to 6.

Among the highlights of the celebration is the showcasing of past and present town officials through the 1st Legislative Gallery History.

Observance of Legislative Awareness Week was created through a municipal ordinance authored by Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan.

Awingan said there is a need to inform the public of the powers, duties and functions of the Benguet capital town’s council through the weeklong activity.

Through the Legislative Gallery History, residents will be educated on the significant local legislation’s enacted and recognize the achievements of the town council which had meaningful effect to the development and progress of the town.

Part of the activities is the capability building that comprised symposium on local legislation to all stakeholders, and annual address of the municipal Vice Mayor of the State of Sangguniang Bayan Address (SOSBA) which features the reports on resolutions and ordinance approved including programs, projects and activities in the local council.

From 1952 to present, Benguet’s capital town had 10 mayors, 17 vice mayors and 101 councilors.

Photographs of former chief executive of the town are displayed at the Lednicky Hall of the municipal building.

On November 6, the local government unit advised former officials and or their family members to furnish the mayor’s office a copy of a portrait or solo picture of the former and present officials to be displayed during the event.
